OVERVIEW

Enjoy a spectacularly scenic drive through the Kenai Peninsula and stop at a wildlife center before departing for the airport in Anchorage. Along the way, commentary will describe the history of this wonderfully pristine alpine area. The views will be particularly stunning from Turnagain Pass – the highest point on the Seward Highway – and as you come out of the majestic mountains towards the waterway Turnagain Arm. Although it’s possible to spot a beluga whale in this inlet, you will definitely see a variety of iconic fauna at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, a facility that rehabilitates injured and orphaned animals. They often include reindeer, brown bear and wood bison, as well as smaller mammals such as bald eagles and Canadian lynx. While following the coastal highway to Anchorage, you will pass Alaska’s largest ski resort at Girdwood and perhaps observe a bore tide so dramatic that it forms waves large enough for surfing.
