Panoramic Southern Norway

OVERVIEW

Follow a wonderfully circuitous road along Norway’s dramatic southern shore to Kristiansand’s captivating Old Town. While winding through Viking country on the North Sea Road, you will be treated to some of the most spectacular views in southern Norway with stops along the way at incredibly scenic spots. The fishing village of Høllen is a fine example as you will pause to admire its traditional wooden houses, which were originally painted white as a status symbol. White paint had to be imported and only the wealthy could afford it. You will also stop in Søgne at Norway’s oldest half-timber church – which dates to 1580 – before continuing to Posebyen, the beautifully preserved Old Town of Kristiansand. It is one of the few parts of the city that was spared in the devastating fire of 1892. It boasts one of North Europe’s largest collections of historical white wooden houses, which have been meticulously maintained.
