Kayaking on Waitangi Estuary

DETALLES

Discover the calm waters of the Waitangi Estuary during this scenic kayaking tour. Join your guide at the wharf and walk to your awaiting kayaks. After receiving your safety instructions, your kayaking adventure begins. You’ll see an abundance of mangrove trees, and their extensive root systems protruding from beneath the water's surface. These unique trees are the lifeblood of this estuary and a favorite breeding ground for many small fish. At the end of the estuary, you’ll arrive at Haruru Falls, which are surrounded on one side by the Waitangi Forest. Although not especially high, the falls are still an impressive sight, especially after a recent rainfall. Light refreshments will be served at a picnic area near the falls before returning to the Waitangi Wharf.

Need to Know:

Note: Participants must be at least 10 years of age and be in good physical condition. While the Waitangi Estuary is normally very calm and well protected, it is recommended that guests have previous kayaking experience. Strong winds can make the kayaking challenging. There are approximately 400 yards of walking from Waitangi Wharf to the kayaking center. Wear a bathing suit under shorts or a cover-up, beach shoes, a hat and sunglasses, and bring a jacket. Double kayaks will be used.
