After departing from the pier in an open-air train trolley, you will soon arrive in the heart of the Royal Naval Dockyard. Known as the “Gibraltar of the West,” the dockyard played a vital role in War of 1812 and both World Wars. As you ride the trolley through the streets, the conductor will entertain you with colorful anecdotes and fascinating facts about the history and architecture of the dockyard. Along the way, you will pass the Royal Navy Cemetery, which dates back to 1812. Other points of interest include Lagoon Park, whose mangroves support a thriving population of birds, and Somerset Village, a residential area on Somerset Island that was settled centuries ago.

The tour ends back at the pier. However, as an alternative, the conductor will drop you at Clock Tower Mall to browse the shops and then you may return to the pier later on your own.

OVERVIEW

Look for iconic Alaskan wildlife in the Chilkoot Valley, an unspoiled landscape with an abundance of bears and bald eagles. A high-speed catamaran ferry will bring you across the Chilkoot Inlet to the town of Haines for a narrated drive through Fort William Seward. The now-decommissioned fort was built in 1902 as a display of power during a border dispute with Canada. On the way there, you may spot seals, sea lions, porpoises and perhaps even whales. Being full of salmon, the Chilkoot River attracts huge numbers of bears and bald eagles, and you will observe them feeding voraciously along the river. Binoculars will be available if you want to look for mountain goats grazing in the distance alpine meadows. As soon as you hop aboard one of the famous Harbor Hoppers, prepare yourself for one-hour of fun-filled adventure. Your 'Harbor Hopper' will take you on a land and water excursion of beautiful Halifax and its harbor. Your commentator will introduce you to Halifax’s finest shops, restaurants, museums and historic sites. Prepare yourself for a big splash as your Hopper plunges into the Halifax harbor. Be amazed by The Royal Canadian Naval Fleet and the spectacular sights along the waterfront. You’ll be dropped off in front of the Cruise Ship Pavilion.

Founded in 1753, Lunenburg is a designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, one of Nova Scotia’s most historic towns and a splendid example of a British Colonial settlement. While the drive is approximately 90 minutes under normal traffic and weather conditions, the wait is worth it when you arrive in this charming scenic waterfront town. Enjoying the historic and colorful working waterfront, your tour guide will regale you with intriguing tales of shipbuilding, fishing, rum running and the buried treasure of Oak Island, all part of the local lore. You’ll have some time to explore on your own, perhaps to visit the Fisheries Museum of Lunenburg (small fee), where a replica of Nova Scotia’s famous racing schooner of the 1920s was built in 1963. Known as the Ambassador of Nova Scotia, the 'Bluenose I' graces the Canadian dime, and when not offering tours from the Halifax waterfront, can be found docked here at her home wharf. Home to North America's only full-time bagpiping school, the pipers, drummers, and dancers have won international honors for their Celtic skills. You'll be greeted by a piper upon arrival and led into the main hall, where the piper will tell you the fascinating story behind the creation of this award-winning facility. You'll be treated to a presentation about the history of the bagpipe and a demonstration of how it works. You'll learn about the history of the Highland snare drum and its construction, and the drummer will share his drumming dexterity with you. A Highland dancer will treat you to a variety of steps and attire, as well as explain the heritage of the dance.
